Not Solved RE: Customized GBox MX2 4.2.2 Firmware for DroidTV MX
On any boxes I have tested within settings it always states what mbx version it is. But then again Im getting these from China with base roms. I strongly believe its all from the same factory as Matricom didnt want to release the firmware files. They messed up their plan whenever they released a non rooted firmware which broke the ability to install OTA firmware. Any of the boxes Ive tested have fully working wifi

Yes I can definitely confirm wifi is stable on mine. I only have issues with ethernet hard wired then I get stutter. Also samba shares are no problem over wifi including 1080p mkv file.

Thanks,

Hi
I just got a box from China - MBX Reference Board (g18ref) with JB 4.2.2
The build number is JDQ39.20130427e & the Kernel is 3.0.50

Would you suggest that I flash the promethues firmware first and then the MX2 custom firmware or can I flash the custom firmware directly

Currently my XBMC is jerky (tried the official build) need to try a different one maybe the MX2 special edition and hopefully upgrade the firmware to fix the audio sync issue.

thanks

Varun

If you have one of those boxes then follow the steps below
unpack matricoms firmware on SD card
In android select OTAupgrade
tick wipe data, media and cache then select the zip file from your sd card
Click on update and then update again
should reboot flash the rom and then reboot again

Hi GPLLover,
So you are suggesting that I use the customized GBox MX2 firmware (linked in this thread) right?

How do I upgrade from a zip within android?

Thanks

Varun

I chose reboot and it wouldn't boot, I did it again (same error), but I turned it off and on and it booted.

I tried a 720p movie from usb and the audio sync is good, but the audio stutters sometimes...like stop-start-stop-start for a second. That's annoying...

Ethernet and wifi both work. (I had forgotten to add the mac address to the wireless router's MAC Address Filter...)
I will test it more and report.

BTW, I saw a post saying g02ref and g18ref have the same hardware, just software changes:
http://www.j1nx.nl/support/forums/?mingl...ostid-1833

Recently Prometheus's firmware had upgraded from g02ref to g18ref, but the there wasn't any hardware change, so I guess same with MX box.
I confirm I can successfully stream 720p & 1080p MKV over the WiFi.

I've always used the normal file from Matricom. Not sure what has been changed in the customised version, the creator could maybe answer that one.
if you unzip/unrar the matricom firmware you should see 3 files factory_update_param.aml, mx42_20130322pusa_20130514e and recovery. Copy these 3 files to the root of your SD card
Insert this into the box and from within Android click on all apps you should see an application called OTAUPDATE.
Use this app to flash the zip file

Hi to all,

I've been lurking around on this forum for the last few weeks and found the information invaluable. In particular I would like to thank Evgeniy for the superb effort in pulling the MX2 firmware together. I'd just about given up on getting my MX dual core delivering any sort of acceptable content via XBMC.

The firmware upgrade provided by Evgeniy solved all issues in one....audio lag, full screen XBMC, dodgy keyboard input, rooting...etc. I'm delighted with the outcome and very grateful. THANK YOU!!!Smile

GPLLover, I'm affraid you won't be able to upgrade using the Matricom's firmware, because it has hardware check embedded in the install script. That was my customization - I removed the hardware check, updated some settings and embedded the XBMC release for MX box.
